Thinking about the future of interior design can get so overwhelming because there are so many amazing ideas that could appear in the future. Design is an amazing industry that is constantly evolving. The best part about it is that it never gets boring! As designers we are always keeping up with the latest social trends, whether it's interior design or even fashion, we love to see what's up and coming in the design world. That being said, read on to find out what we think the future of interior design is going to look like, and what trends we are loving!
We believe that interior design is always evolving and changing. Due to the pandemic, a lot of people started working from home, and because of this people have wanted to update their homes. They want their homes to look beautiful and new. Everyone being at home caused a huge rise in home offices and separating rooms to get certain work done. Open concept has been a huge trend in design but we believe that will slowly start to trickle away. With families staying home more, separation of space is so important. Frankly, we’re starting to think that the whole open concept is overrated. We are firm believers that all rooms should be separated in some way, every room deserves it’s own personality! Although, one open concept we are sure will stick around is the transition from kitchen to dining room. If you are looking to entertain, an open concept kitchen and dining space will work perfectly. An open kitchen/dining space is perfect for conversing. We also noticed dining rooms are making a huge comeback because it is a great communal space to eat and catch up with family members and friends. As we all know, this pandemic has shown us all how valuable time with our loved ones is.
Personally, we would love to see bright colors trending in the future. Colors that are fun and earthy, such as green. Green has really become huge this 2021 year which is amazing - we’re here for it! Although green looks great in any room of the house we can't get enough of it in the kitchen. Green kitchen cabinets have been super trendy lately, and we don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon. While it adds a more modern look to your kitchen, it also feels timeless and traditional. People should start implementing color into all of their rooms in their home. The future of design is going to be about pushing the limits more and more and mixing textures and colors. The white everything trend is fading very quickly which we are actually happy about. We love color and bringing the outdoors inside your home is a great way to make color pop. We just know the future of design is going to be bright.
Design trends have carried throughout history and I would love to see old styles and design become more modern. At Joshua Allen Design, we love putting a modern twist on design while still incorporating and showcasing original pieces. We do think that old trends will keep coming back because that is just the evolution of design. A lot of older trends are already starting to make a comeback like wallpaper and brass. The vintage-modern look is super popular right now, and for good reason! When you think of it design is really like fashion, everything will come back but be different and unique in its own way. There’s always a way to add a little flare into your space, that's what desisgners are here for! For example white cabinets, they can tend to look a little blah. They aren’t a bad thing to have in your kitchen but it can be a little boring so put some color on those cabinets. If you are loving your white cabinets, an interesting way to put character into them is to do a tuxedo theme. You would do white cabinets up top and black cabinets on the bottom. Trust us, you won’t regret it. Your kitchen will look so sharp and elegant. This is one style that isn’t going anywhere!
At the end of the day, your home is your safe space and should represent you! Interior design is all about having fun and expressing yourself. Interior design and home decor are one of the best ways to express your personality. While some design aesthetics will always be timeless there will always be new trends right around the corner. So if you're looking to refresh your home, there's no better time than the present! There's an endless world of creativity out there for you to explore. Just remember, that nothing is permanent, so paint those kitchen cabinets, or throw up that wallpaper pattern you love. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different colors, styles, and trends - be bold, be you, and have fun!
